Step-by-Step Visa Application Process

1. Determine Visa Category
Select the appropriate category such as Tourist/Visitor (B1/B2), Student (F/M), Exchange (J), or other non-immigrant categories. Requirements vary depending on the purpose of travel.

2. Complete the DS-160 Form
Fill out the online DS-160 Non-Immigrant Visa Application Form carefully. Ensure all details are accurate and consistent with your supporting documents.

3. Pay the Visa Fee
Pay the applicable MRV fee:

  • USD 185 for most tourist, student, and exchange visas

  • USD 205 for petition-based categories

4. Schedule Your Appointment
Book your interview appointment through the US Visa Service website, selecting Islamabad or Karachi based on your region. Appointments must be scheduled within the validity period of your MRV fee.

5. Prepare Required Documents
Typical documentation includes:

  • A valid passport (minimum 6-month validity beyond travel date)

  • Passport-sized photographs meeting US specifications

  • DS-160 confirmation page and appointment confirmation

  • Travel purpose evidence (itinerary, invitation letter, etc.)

  • Financial proofs (bank statements, tax returns)

  • Proof of strong ties to Pakistan (employment, property, family)

  • For students: Acceptance letter and proof of financial support for study

6. Attend the Interview
Appear at the US Embassy (Islamabad) or Consulate (Karachi) on the scheduled date with all original documents. A consular officer will conduct the interview to assess eligibility.

7. Visa Decision and Passport Collection
